Identification Methods Season
Twin dorsal fins, anterior has nine sharp spines and the second is a leathery membrane. It has a large open mouth and can grow to over 8 kilos. Can be caught using either shore or inshore methods although the latter is not the most successful method to employ in Ireland. Spinning, plugging or using ragworm or peeler crabs are the most successful methods. No fishing for bass is allowed between 15th May and 15 June. Please use catch and release although there is a size limit of 40cms and a further limit of 2 fish per angler, per day.
